Styling Tools: Pinterest

Pinterest is a virtual  pinboard. Pinterest lets you organize and share all the beautiful things you find on the web. People use pinboards to plan their weddings, decorate their homes, and organize their favorite recipes. Best of all, you can browse pinboards created by other people. Browsing pinboards is a fun way to discover new things and get inspiration from people who share your interests. This is as per their website
I joined Pinterest like more than a year ago but never really utilized it other than occasionally browsing  for style inspiration.  The last few months of 2012 inspired me to start utilizing it as a styling tool as it allows clients to pin up styles they like in one place and I can analyze the boards to help me understand their styles. my financial analysis background makes this process seem like analyzing financial records of clients. Lol. You look for trends and see what is driving them.  often by looking at what the client has posted I'm able to discern what they are drawn to and  a trend will emerge which when i point out to the client they are often pleasantly surprised .
There are so many creative and professional ways to utilize Pinterest.  Denise Graveline has boards showing the numerous ways. Check her out at her page

So how does Pinterest  work as a styling tool? It is a pin board to collect and share what inspires you, what you like, what piques your interest and what you're drawn to. it could be images, quotes, blog posts, DIY, it’s really the best way to create a fashion/mood board for my clients. I can show them pieces and outfits that I think would work for their new style, and we can both add comments and see how it all fits together. So obviously I’m hooked and I think you too should make a Pinterest board for the New Year. The easy part is that almost anything you see online is “pinnable” – and it’s so easy to do.
Step 1: brainstorm words you want to embody your style.
Step 2: Take stock in your closet and make a list of missing items
Step 3: Start with inspiring items like prints, or colors and then
Step 4: Search specifically on big stores for items you need. For example teal peplum dress, a line brown skirt, bronze pumps. Check out Nordstrom, Bloomingdale’s, Zappos and Saks, and also pepper in smaller boutique online shops.
Step 5: Search for pinners to follow and like, repin, create as many boards as you wish.

For those interested my Pinterest page is NyangiFaith . Within the next few weeks it will have more items than it does now. But do give Pinterest a chance whether for your fashion needs, home decor plans, birthday planning or wedding planning or perhaps everyday humour and inspiration
