RED CARPET AWARD CEREMONIES

Project Runway provided the inspiration for this post. One of the tasks assigned to the designers was to create a red carpet look and each designer had to choose the particular red carpet event and explain the look. Fashion is such an integral part of these events that the awards almost take second place to who wore what and who missed it or got it. As Heidi said the events are just as much as who you're wearing as much as who you are.I decided to look up to some of the famous red carpet events that we have. They are in no particular order so hopefully we can all know more about these awards other than the critique of the outfits worn by the attendees. The media swarms red carpet events. When the rich and famous come out to attend the latest opening or awards ceremony, the media is present. Lights flashing, cameras rolling and interviews are just part of the red carpet scene. The next day, you can pick up any popular magazine and see photos of the celebrities. The media makes it a point to focus on the best and the worst dressed of every event. It seems as if some celebrities thrive on the attention that comes from wearing outrageous clothing. That makes sense because media attention, good or bad, puts a celebrity in the spotlight.

The media helps the world of fashion by letting the world know what is coming, what is outdated and what popular stars are wearing. The media fulfills the need that society has to know everything there is to know about famous people. The media also helps boost the sales of thousands of designer labels. If the media ceased to exist, the world of fashion would suffer from the lack of exposure. That is what the media is all about, exposing things to the world.

THE OSCARS/THE ACADEMY AWARDS:

The Oscars reward the previous year’s greatest cinema achievements as determined by some of the world’s most accomplished motion picture artists and professionals. The Academy’s roughly 6,000 members vote for the Oscars using secret ballots, which are tabulated by the international auditing firm of PricewaterhouseCoopers. The auditors maintain absolute secrecy until the moment the show’s presenters open the envelopes and reveal the winners on live television. Each January, the entertainment community and film fans around the world turn their attention to the Academy Awards. Interest and anticipation builds to a fevered pitch leading up to the Oscar telecast in February, when hundreds of millions of movie lovers tune in to watch the glamorous ceremony and learn who will receive the highest honors in filmmaking.

GRAMMY AWARDS

The recording industry's most prestigious award, the GRAMMY, is presented annually by The Recording Academy. A GRAMMY is awarded by The Recording Academy's voting membership to honor excellence in the recording arts and sciences. It is truly a peer honor, awarded by and to artists and technical professionals for artistic or technical achievement, not sales or chart positions. The annual GRAMMY Awards presentation brings together thousands of creative and technical professionals in the recording industry from all over the world.
The Latin GRAMMY Awards were launched in 2000 with a very successful first annual telecast aired on CBS. It was the first primarily Spanish-language prime-time program carried on network television. Like the GRAMMY Awards, the Latin GRAMMYs recognize artist and technical excellence in the recording arts and sciences by peer vote. It has already come to represent the height of achievement in Latin recording

GOLDEN GLOBE AWARDS

Known worldwide for its glittering Golden Globe Awards ceremony held every January and its multi-million dollar donations to charity, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association had humble origins that stemmed solely from a group of journalists' desire to efficiently and accurately cover all aspects of the world of entertainment.Today, the Golden Globes recognize achievements in 25 categories; 14 in motion pictures and 11 in television.
A continuing tradition of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association is the group’s annual selection of Miss and/or Mr. Golden Globe, the daughter and/or son of a well-known performer who assists in the Golden Globe ceremony. Previous Miss Golden Globe honorees include Laura Dern (daughter of Diane Ladd and Bruce Dern), Joely Fisher (daughter of Connie Stevens and Eddie Fisher), Melanie Griffith (daughter of Tippi Hedren) and last year’s honoree Lorraine Nicholson (daughter of Jack Nicholson). EMMY AWARDS

I really love the tagline 'where the people who love TV meet the people who make TV'...so American but the Emmy's are all about Television. An Emmy Award, often referred to simply as an Emmy, is a television production award, similar in nature to the Peabody Awards but more focused on entertainment, and is considered the television equivalent to the Academy Awards (for film), the Tony Award (for theatre), and the Grammy Awards (for music).
A majority of Emmys are presented in various sectors of the American television industry. As such, the awards are presented in various area-specific ceremonies held annually throughout the year. The two ceremonies that usually receive the most media coverage are the Primetime Emmys and the Daytime Emmys, primarily recognizing excellence in American primetime and daytime entertainment programming, respectively. Other notable Emmy Award ceremonies include those honoring national sports programming, national news and documentary shows, national business and financial reporting, and technological and engineering achievements in television. Regional Emmy Awards are also presented throughout the country at various times through the year, recognizing excellence in local and state-to-state television. In addition, International Emmys are awarded to recognize excellence in TV programming produced and initially aired outside the United States.

BRIT AWARDS

Once the nominations are out, the buzz and excitement escalates in the weeks leading up to what is the biggest event in the British music industry’s calendar. Artists are interviewed, the blogosphere is alive with speculation as to who will win what, but the hive of activity behind the scenes is equally intense. he Brit Awards (stylised as the BRIT Awards; often simply called the Brits) are the British Phonographic Industry's annual pop music awards and the British equivalent of the American Grammy Awards. The name was originally a shortened form of "British", "Britain" or "Britannia", but subsequently became a backronym for British Record Industry Trust. In addition, an equivalent awards ceremony for classical music, called the Classic BRIT Awards, is held each May. Robbie Williams holds the record for the most Brit Awards, having won a total of 12 as a solo artist and another five awards as part of Take That.
At the Brit Awards 2012, Adele won the award for 'Mastercard British Album of the Year' which is widely regarded as the most important award of the ceremony. Less than half a minute into her acceptance speech, host James Corden was forced to cut Adele off in order to introduce Blur who were due to perform an eleven minute set as they had won the 'Outstanding Contribution to Music' award and the ceremony was over-running. Adele was visibly annoyed and proceed to flick her middle finger up into the air[18] and the producers of the show came under fire from members of social networking website Twitter for the decision. Following the incident Adele said "I got cut off during my speech for Best Album and I flung the middle finger. But that finger was to the suits at the BRIT Awards, not to my fans".[20] Adele received an apology from the show's organisers, who stated; "We send our deepest apologies to Adele that her big moment was cut short. We don't want this to undermine her incredible achievement in winning our night's biggest award. It tops off what's been an incredible year for her.

BET AWARDS

The BET Awards were established in 2001 by the Black Entertainment Television network to celebrate African Americans and other minorities in music, acting, sports, and other fields of entertainment over the past year. The awards are presented annually and broadcast live on BET.

MTV MOVIE AWARDS AND VIDEO MUSIC AWARDS(VMA)

The MTV Movie Awards is a film awards show presented annually on MTV. The nominees are decided by producers and executives at MTV. Winners are decided online by the general public. Presently voting is done through MTV's official website through a special Movie Awards link at movieawards.mtv.com. Unlike its sister event MTV Video Music Awards (which are broadcast live), the MTV Movie Awards (up to 2007) were taped and then broadcast a few days later. However, in 2007, this changed, as MTV and Survivor producer Mark Burnett (who took over duties from Joel Gallen for the 2007 awards) announced the '07 edition would be broadcast live on MTV for the first time on June 3, 2007 in Los Angeles.
An MTV Video Music Award (commonly abbreviated as a VMA), is an award presented by the cable channel MTV to honor the best in music videos. Originally conceived as an alternative to the Grammy Awards (in the video category), the annual MTV Video Music Awards ceremony has often been called the "Oscars for youth", an acknowledgment of the VMA ceremony's ability to draw millions of youth from teens to 20-somethings each year. By 2001, the VMA had become a coveted award. The statue given to winners is an astronaut on the moon, one of the earliest representations of MTV.

The annual VMA ceremony is usually held in mid-September, and broadcast live on MTV. The first VMA ceremony was held in 1984 at New York City's Radio City Music Hall. Other VMAs have been held in Los Angeles, Miami, and Las Vegas. The 2012 MTV Video Music Awards will air live on Sunday, September 9, 2012.

PEABODY AWARDS

Among prizes for electronic media – radio awards, television awards, interactive and new media awards – THE GEORGE FOSTER PEABODY AWARDS are considered the most prestigious. Founded in 1940, the Peabody is the also the oldest electronic media award in the world, recognizing excellence, distinguished achievement, and meritorious public service. The first radio awards were presented in 1941, for work completed in 1940. The first television awards were presented in 1948, the first cable television awards in 1981, and the first web site awards in 2003. Honoring content from large broadcast networks to tiny online outlets, from popular entertainment programs to independently produced documentaries, and all types in between, the Peabody Awards seek out “excellence on its own terms.” The awards are administered by the University of Georgia's Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication.
Reflecting excellence in quality rather than popularity or commercial success, the Peabody is the industry’s most competitive honor, with an average of about 25-35 winners chosen annually from more than 1,000 entries.

The award is determined by one criterion—"Excellence". Because submissions are accepted from a wide variety of sources and styles, deliberations seek "Excellence On Its Own Terms." Each entry is evaluated on the achievement of standards it establishes within its own contexts. Entries are self-selected by those making submissions and as a result the quality of competing works is extraordinarily high. The Peabody Awards are then presented only to "the best of the best". The Peabody Awards are formally presented each year in late May or early June at a luncheon in New York City. Past hosts include Walter Cronkite, Leslie Stahl, Jon Stewart and Larry King.

So next time you're watching any of these red carpet awards shows or any other in your country...you will be better informed as I am. Mostof theinformation wasfrom the official websites ofthe awards with some additional inputs froms everal other websites linked
