Personal Style Interview: Della

Radio queen Della is our interview guest today. She is sassy, witty and certainly vocal so this should be an interesting one :-) I am still a bit miffed that she dissed my hood and moved :-P

 1. Outfit for a night out:  

I love to keep it simple, but sexy - a short dress, some cute booties, jewellery etc.

The older I get (30 at present) there comfortable I have become with my own body, and the more my curves make sense to me, so I embrace it!  I used to be ok with partying in jeans, but not any more! The sexier I feel, the more I will enjoy my night!

2. For lounging around you throw on. 

I am such a tomboy. Nothing makes me happier than getting up, throwing on some jeans and a cool shirt, slapping on some makeup, giving my monster braids a massive shake, and walking out the door. My work life is so hectic and involves super early starts so I keep my style simple at work. My ‘lounge time’ mimics that: Jeans, leggings, off the shoulder sweaters.

I used to wear black ALL THE TIME but I’ve outgrown the goth phase. I’ve started incorporating a lot more colour - whether through jewellery or scarves. That said, I really really hate red.

3. Which motto do you most relate to?

Wear your heart on your sleeve.

4. What’s your signature makeup look?

I have crazy eyes, ha! They don’t really have much of a hood, so I tend to focus my makeup on making them ‘pop’. I love pastels as a base, and use kohl coupled with my ABSOLUTE FAVOURITE mascara - Maybelline’s Colossal Mascara. One coat and I instantly have longer, thicker looking lashes.

5. If you could only wear one piece of jewelry it would be?

I love my bangles, so I would have to say that. Not a fan of chains at all, and I like earrings but my skin has a tendency to react to many cute pieces, so I only wear them in short spans of time.

I do have a belly ring that I never take off. Had my belly pierced about ten years ago, so that’s probably the one piece I would never take of

6. What would you wear for a typical day at work?

I work at a radio station, so it’s casual friday all day long! Unless I have meetings and events of course. In those situations, I have a change of clothes/ heels with me.

7. What is your favorite accessory?

Well, it’ not a favourite accessory, but rather an armful of them. I have a bangle arm. All of my friends have contributed to it, and I will always have something that was given to me from at least four different people. They don’t always match, but they mean something special.

8. Who do you consider your celebrity fashion icon?

Rihanna. She sets the trends, and I love that. That said, I really like Beyonce’s street style. She looks cool, trendy, and doesn’t look like she tries too hard. I’d love her wardrobe.

10. Describe the underwear you are wearing RIGHT NOW

Haha! Red bra set. I have to try and feel sexy under all the casual!

I’m 30!

Radio Presenter, journalist

Not a parent, but hope to be one sooner rather than later!

Single

15. What you would never be caught dead in?

A skirt suit. I feel a little ill thinking about it actually.

16. What’s one trend or look that really irritates you?

I’m not a fan of trends in general. Individuality is what it’s all about. Take something you like from what’s hot, but don’t just follow the pack. Everyone ends up looking the same and it’s silly.

17. What inspires your style?

My lifestyle, my friends, and my body to name a few!

18. Your best physical feature or one you get most compliments?

I like my body in general. I’m tall and I am curvy - I could stand to lose a few pounds, but I think I’m fairly proportional. I get compliments about my butt (hey -I’m luhya!) and (surprisingly) my eyes.

19. Last outfit your bought?

I was at Toi! First time there actually, and I bought the cutest little black and white shift. I can dress it up with heels, or dress it down with tights/ leggings. Love it!

21. Worst look you ever wore?

I’ve worn many. I remember having a real fondness for oversized plaid shirts. Don’t ask.

22. A look that you always find attractive in the opposite sex?

I like men who are put together. I’m a grown woman, and I don’t find men who dress like teenagers attractive. Nice shirts, nice pants, nice shoes. Nothing oversize unless you are running. Nothing skinny. I like clean shaven men, no earrings (this isn’t 2001).

23. What is weird about you?

Perhaps the fact that I have kept the same braids for the past three-four years. At first I just liked them, but now they are my trademark. On the couple of occasions I HAVE switched it up, I have switched right back the next month. When it comes to hair, the bigger the better!

24. What is unique about you?

That’s always a hard question to answer. I’m me. The only one. There is the uniqueness!

I must say Ken will forever be in my good books. He did this interview in the shortest amount of time yet did it so well. I did not have to follow up with him for months unlike some of the other guys and chics I asked to do this series. He is also very easy on the eye so this should be a fun interview :-)

Personal Style Interview: Melissa Edel

I have known Mel from high school  and at some point we were neighbours, and despite her moving to another country I still consider her a friend,so I'm pretty excited that she agreed to be part of this series.  She is  a wife and a mummy but one who has not let herself fall into the letting yourself go category that some do. She is certainly NOT #TEAMFRUMPY!

Lounging clad, its comfortable and I can play with the kids in it

Variety is the spice of life.  I like different things, I like to mix different things and make them work for me. I feel like doing the same thing is boring.  And the different things we do in life make life more interesting

5.If you could only wear one piece of jewelry it would be? Earrings, i love all kinds of earrings, from ear dots to the big crazy hoops it just depends with where i am going and what I am wearing



6. What would you wear for a typical day at work?
I work in hospital and we wear,scrubs, not very interesting, especially now that we have to wear one color. But I try to color it up with make up and earrings

7. What is your favorite accessory? hand bag, i love hand bags. I always carry one, i try to match them with my clothes whenever i can, if i can't i just carry black, it's always safe.

Who do you consider your celebrity fashion icon? mhh let me think, i would say i am all over the place with no one in particular, i copy what i feel fits my body type and that might not be most of what one person wears. But generally speaking, maybe Beyonce. I also like the style of girl with curves, she embraces her curves very well and with style.


10. Describe the underwear you are wearing RIGHT NOW. Victoria secret pink with black stripes regular panty; I'm at work I have to be comfortable with all the bending and lifting that we do.

12 What is your occupation? I am a Registered nurse at a hospital, yay!

13. Are you a parent? Yes And if so does it have an impact in your style. Yes it does as i have to dress for the occasion especially if i have the children with me, i have to dress in a way that i can still be able to carry the little one and run after the 5 year old when she runs off to the road and don't fall off on my face, but that doesn't mean I dress down, I still dress up, all the time.

Are you married and if so does it affect your style? yes I am married, it impacts my style as when he says that looks cute i keep it, but when he says ' is that not so tight' i might change it or change part of it' just to maintain the peace, but mostly i just wear whatever i chose as he likes most of my style.

15. What you would never be caught dead in? Pleated skirt or dress, makes my but look like its two people back there, its already big, i don't need any more attention back there.

16. What’s one trend or look that really irritates you? Women who dress down all the time, it doesn't matter where they are, club, meeting, party, outing they always have the same look like jeans and a t shirt. I go like ' you don't have to wear a micro mini dress but maybe a blazers with jeans, or heels would have made a difference or just dressy shoes instead of the flip flops'.

17. What inspires your style? Everything, the magazines, my friends, celebrities, TV, but mostly its myself, after i see all this fashion, i settle down to what do i like, what looks good on me and what is comfortable when i wear it.

18. Your best physical feature or one you get most compliments? My butt, i get a lot of compliments it gets me in trouble but i like it, even when i work out , i work to firm it as that is my identity, i'm a curvy girl and proud of it.

21. Worst look you ever wore? I can't think of any, I always try to look good every time I step out of the house, but wait probably when I wear a big top almost like a dress with pants, again, makes my butt look extra huge.

22. A look that you always find attractive in the opposite sex? I like a guy in a fitted suit. Oh and I like men with beautiful feet. And no, I don't have a picture for that, lol!

23. What is weird about you? My sister says, I'm very unpredictable, I'm sometimes very happy and then sometimes flat lined, I personally don't think that's true. Oh and some people think I'm a snob before they talk to me, to the contrary I'm opposite that! And everyone who knows me will attest to that.

24. What is unique about you? I can get along with different types of people; cultures, race, nationalities, tribes you name it, I always try to know the people and not their tribe, or color or race or whatever else is their identity.

Personal Style Interview: Barbara Isiaho

Barbara will probably kill me for this but she reminds me of a very cute doll!  Petite with perfect features. She is fierce don't mistake my impression and very much stylish and was gracious enough to share her personal style story with us.

 1. Outfit for a night out:  

 My outfit for the night is a little girly but glamorous…a fancy skirt with a simple flattering vest and heels. I like this outfit because it brings out all the best parts of my body and I can rock it at work and transform it to my night out outfit.

2. For lounging around you throw on..

My lounging outfit is a simple colored loose top and ripped jeans with comfortable wedges.  I love the outfit because it’s quite simple and chic. Ripped jeans is now so in and they just give me a relaxed feel. The wedges work well for me because of my height so I rock them instead of flats…they are comfy too.

I like to keep my makeup as natural as possible. less is more for me. So earth tones, nude and matte colours work well. Some eyeliner and mascara, foundation to bring that flawlessness and some nude colored lipstick with less shimmer.

Definitely my beaded bracelets.

6. What would you wear for a typical day at work? 

I would wear flared pants and a nice coloured blouse..I love the look because the flared shaped pants elongated my legs and i don't like to be bulky at the top so I keep it simple but classy with a bright chiffon top.

7. What is your favorite accessory?

My favourite accessory is my silk YSL scarf…i use it as a headwrap,i tie it on my bag to just add some style to my outfit and i also use it around my neck
